FMT capsules, start to finish

At Biome Basics, our goal is to provide access to this innovative and life-saving therapy. With over a decade of experience in the fecal transplant space, our provider, Dr. Piper supports this goal by creating safe and effective oral FMT capsules using a protocol she’s been using for 7 years that has successfully treated over 200 patients. Using a double centrifugation process, microbial pellets of donor stool are carefully preserved to help provide your biome the restoration it may need after antibiotic resistant C.diff infection.

Donor screening

After a detailed medical history and physical examination, donors enter a rigorous, multi-phase, screening process.

We do extensive blood and stool screening for infectious disease — multi-drug resistant organisms including ESBL E. Coli, hepatitis A, B, and C, HIV, ova and parasites, and many more. We consult with an immunologist regularly to ensure our testing is efficacious and up to date. Our full list of tests is available upon request.

Our donors do not have any significant health issues, are not on any pharmaceutical medications and have a history that supports a healthy microbiome. For example, our donors were all born vaginally and breastfed. They have had less than 5 rounds of antibiotics in their life and none in the past several years. They have a whole foods organic diet that is high in fiber and low in processed foods. And most importantly, they are happy healthy humans.

As a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Piper appreciates how much lifestyle impacts the microbiome. In addition to being healthy and happy people, our donors are part of a healthy community that has cultivated microbiome diversity through lifestyle and health practices. They have healthy diets, an active outdoor lifestyle, and an emphasis on stress management and sleep hygiene.

We are proud of our high screening standards and health of our donors because it means we can offer the highest quality FMT capsules.

Tracking

All donor samples are tracked from the moment of donation to the finished product. A capsule from each batch processed is saved for quality control tracking. Each bottle of capsules includes a batch ID and date of processing.

Processing

We follow a strict processing protocol with safety, sterilization, and temperature regulation as our top priorities. We perform safety and quality audits to ensure we are following best practices. All processing is performed under a hood in a lab setting that ensures contamination risk is mitigated.

Testing

Our donors undergo frequent testing of their blood and stool (every 6 months, sooner if needed), and are in close communication with our teams, so we can ensure the healthiest stool product possible.

Final product

Our final FMT pills of concentrated stool-derived bacterial pellets. They are triple encapsulated in gelatin capsules, and frozen immediately.

One dose is 30 capsules.
