Andrea McBeth, ND sees patients specifically with complex gastrointestinal and chronic diseases. Her version of naturopathic medicine follows a co-care model which she believes can be collaborative and not contradictory with patients and their other medical practitioners. Her goal is always to provide guidance to address the problems patients face, specifically through the lens of a patient's microbiome health.

Philosophy of Medicine Through the Lens of the Microbiome

True health, prevention, and healing can be found when we realize the human body as an ecosystem.

Our body has trillions of microbes living in and on it. These microbes are collectively known as the microbiome. Our understanding and awareness of it is a relatively new in the context of human health and medicine.

In the forests of the Pacific Northwest the diversity of plants and animals provide resiliency to this ecosystem. Similarly, our human microbial ecosystem relies on us to support its diversity to maintain our health.

In the forest ecosystem, external influences like fire and rain can cause destruction or allow new life to flourish. That is equivalent to how our decisions about what to eat and our lifestyle can shape our body’s microbial ecosystem.

At Flora Medicine our vision is to direct medical decision-making through the lens of the microbiome. We acknowledge the complexity and unknowns of this ecosystem. We also see the broader patterns and truths of how ecosystems find balance. By using the tools of naturopathic medicine and the science of ecosystem biology we can blend western and alternative medicine in a way that has profound effects.
